Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (80% lean)
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsp tomato sauce or ketchup
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard
  • 2 cups low-sodium beef broth
  • 8 oz button mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tsp water (slurry, for thickening)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix ground beef, panko breadcrumbs, tomato sauce, egg, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, oregano, black pepper, and salt until just combined. Shape into 4 patties.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sear patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side until browned; remove from skillet.
  3. In the same skillet, add onions and mushrooms; cook until softened (about 5 minutes).
  4. Stir in beef broth, onion powder, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce; bring to a simmer. Return patties to skillet and cook for an additional 10 minutes.
  5. To thicken gravy, mix cornstarch with water to create a slurry; stir into the skillet and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until thickened.
  6. Season to taste with salt and pepper before serving.
