  • 4 medium yellow onions
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • ½ pound ground beef
  • 1 ½ teaspoons chicken hamburger seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (substituted with broth if needed)
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyere cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice off the tops of the onions and hollow them out, leaving about half an inch around the edges.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil and butter over medium heat. Add the hollowed onion insides and a pinch of salt; cook until golden brown (15-20 minutes).
  3. In a bowl, mix ground beef with chicken seasoning, garlic powder, black pepper, Worcestershire sauce (or broth), and half of the caramelized onions.
  4. Stuff each hollowed onion with the beef mixture and top with shredded Gruyere cheese. Place in a baking dish.
  5. Drizzle with remaining olive oil, cover with foil, and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until cheese is bubbly.
