  • 1/2 cup cold butter (or vegan butter)
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup milk (any type)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp melted butter (or vegan butter)
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, salt, and sugar.
  3. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles small peas.
  4. Stir in the molasses and milk until just combined to form a dough.
  5. Shape the dough into a circle about 3/4 inch thick on a baking sheet lined with parchment.
  6. Brush the top with milk and sprinkle with additional sugar.
  7. Cut into eight wedges and bake for 15–20 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Optional: Prepare icing by mixing powdered sugar, melted butter, maple syrup, and vanilla extract. Drizzle over warm scones before serving.
