  • 1/2 cup sugar (or brown sugar)
  • 2 packages active-dry yeast
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 3/4 cup warm milk
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/2 cup softened butter
  • 1 large beaten egg
  • 1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar (for caramel)
  • 3/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 3/4 cup softened butter (for caramel)
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by combining warm milk and water in a bowl. Sprinkle yeast on top and let it sit until bubbly.
  2. In another bowl, mix together flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Combine the yeast mixture with dry ingredients and softened butter. Gradually add flour until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough for about 5-8 minutes until smooth, then let it rise in a greased bowl until doubled (about an hour).
  5. Make the caramel by heating brown sugar, corn syrup, and butter in a saucepan until smooth. Pour into a baking dish.
  6. Roll out the dough into a rectangle, spread melted butter on top, and sprinkle with cinnamon, nutmeg, and brown sugar.
  7. Roll tightly into a log and slice into equal pieces; place cut side down in the caramel mixture.
  8. Allow to rise again for about 30 minutes before baking at 350°F (175°C) for approximately 25 minutes until golden.
