Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast
  • 1 1/4 cups cold whole milk (or almond milk)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 16 chocolate batons (or 8 oz semi-sweet or dark chocolate)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough by mixing flour, sugar, salt, and yeast in a bowl. Gradually add cold milk until a dough forms. Knead until smooth and let rise until doubled.
  2. Create the butter layer by rolling softened butter between parchment paper into a rectangle. Chill until firm.
  3. Roll out the risen dough and place the chilled butter layer in the center. Fold over and roll again; repeat this process three times.
  4. Cut triangles from the rolled-out dough and place chocolate at the base of each triangle before rolling into croissant shapes.
  5. Allow shaped croissants to rise, then bake at 375°F (190°C) for about 20 minutes until golden brown.
